AL- ZOUR LOT 1 A& 400 KV SUB-STATION

The electrical interconnection project between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council is considered one of the most important infrastructure-linking projects approved by the Gulf Cooperation Council. Among the benefits achieved by the project are the reduction of the required reserve in each country, the mutual coverage in case of emergency, the benefit from the surplus, and the reduction of the cost of electric power production. And in the implementation of the decision of the eighteenth session of the Supreme Council (Kuwait, December 1997), in the year 2001, the GCC Electricity Interconnection Authority was established to undertake the project's construction, operation, and maintenance.

In November 2005, a few contracts were signed to implement the project’s first phase, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, and the State of Kuwait.

Where the Ministry of Electricity and Water in the State of Kuwait in mid-2006 put forward the tender work for the construction and construction of the Gulf Interconnection Station (Al-Zour 1A/400K.V), The bid was awarded to the Swiss company ABB as the main contractor, and Ali Al-Sayegh Contracting Company was also approved as a contractor for the civil works because of its expertise, skills, approvals from the ministries of the state, honorable history, and offering the best prices in carrying out civil works and building power stations. We were also awarded a certificate of distinction in the implementation of civil works from the Electricity Interconnection Authority of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf with a grade of excellence in the completion of the station 400K.V.

The work of this stage was completed, and its actual operation began in July 2009, thus four member states were electrically connected in a historic moment recorded by the inauguration of their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC states for this stage, on December 14, 2009, in the State of Kuwait.

Also, this project is the first 400 kV station to be implemented in the State of Kuwait. This project links five Gulf countries to exchange electricity supply in times of need from one country to another.
